Lovell Hockey is entering its 15th year of Defenseman-only camps, and the specificity of how we teach the position is what sets us apart. Playing defense is more than just stopping plays — it’s about skating, positioning, decision-making, and confidence with the puck.

At Lovell, skating is the foundation of becoming a great defenseman. No one provides more reps or more detailed instruction in skating than we do. Skating will be the priority throughout the week, while also teaching the finer details that separate good defensemen from great ones.

Players will work extensively on:

• Skating mechanics, mobility, and edge work specific to defensemen
• Breaking out of the defensive zone with your partner
• Partner passing and proper gapping in the neutral zone
• Killing plays at the blue line and defending zone entries
• Defensive angling in the neutral and defensive zones
• Walking the blue line and creating shooting lanes
• Shooting for tips and rebounds
• Boxing out and net-front play

All drills are position-specific and taught in a high-rep, game-realistic environment that translates directly to game situations.

Mite/Squirt 10:15 – 4:05 pm

On-ice at 10:15-12:05 pm, Off-ice/lunch at 12:15 – 2:05 pm, On-ice again at 2:15 – 4:05 pm.

Peewee/Bantam 12:15 – 6:05 pm

On-ice at 12:15 – 2:05 pm, Off-ice/lunch at 12:15 – 2:05 pm, On-ice again at 2:15 – 4:05 pm.
